We are members of the Charger Robotics team at Kentridge High School, and we're interested in hosting a virtual STEM Club Jr. at your school during the 2020-2021 school year.

About STEM Club Jr.

Our traditional STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) Club Jr. is a five-week program that we created in 2013 to help young students get interested and excited about STEM all while having fun. The first four weeks of STEM Club Jr. focus on various engineering projects, and the final week dives into FIRST Robotics and the Chargers Robotics Team. All of the sessions have activities designed to be educational, engaging, and fun for the students.

Activity Information

Given the current remote learning situation, we have adapted our STEM Club Jr. procedures for a remote learning format; this program is called STEM Club Jr. In A Box. This program is geared towards 4th - 6th graders. We will be using Microsoft Teams to host STEM Club Jr. and placing students in randomized groups to participate in various engaging, at-home activities. In this program, your students are joining a fictional engineering firm, and each week has an activity related storyline. Over the five-weeks, your students will

  1. Design and build a model bridge to cross the Green River

  2. Discover the basic building blocks of the Earth

  3. Design and build a skyscraper in Seattle

  4. Design and decorate a spy airplane

Lastly, your students will be able to learn about the Charger Robotics program and to see what FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) has to offer them.  STEM Club in a Box runs for 5 weeks, one session per week. Attendees will be provided with a free box of materials with kits for each week.  Interested teachers will receive flyers to distribute to parents and students. STEM Club Jr. is completely free - however, we need teacher support during the session to be the “adult in the room”

About STEM Club in a Box

Over the past 8 years, we have successfully hosted 24 in-person sessions of STEM Club Jr. We have revised our curriculum for STEM Club In a Box to be centered around keeping the material interesting and relevant to the students while making sure they’re safe at home. Here is a link for the activities that we will be doing with the group.

Who are we?

Charger Robotics is a FIRST Robotics Competition team with an extensive outreach program to engage younger members of the community in science, technology, engineering, and math. Formed in 2011, Charger Robotics is the Kent School District’s only FIRST Robotics Competition Team and is made up of 42 high school students aided by many industry professionals as mentors.

Please let us know if you're interested in providing this opportunity for your students! We plan to start sessions in late February - early March; if you are interested or have questions please let us know. Let us know what works best for you and your students!

Feel free to reach out to us with any questions!
